Endodontic microsurgery, also known as an apicoectomy, is a procedure used when infection persists around the tip of a tooth’s root after root canal treatment. Using a dental microscope, the infected tissue is removed, and the end of the root is sealed. The procedure is performed with local anesthesia to keep you comfortable. Microsurgery allows us to treat areas that cannot always be reached through conventional root canal treatment. It can often save a tooth that might otherwise require extraction. Most patients experience a quick recovery and return to normal activities within a few days.
